All students in 3^rd grade through High School will participate in the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) test in April and May of each school year.

What is STAAR?

STAAR stands for State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, which is the state's student testing program.  The assessments are based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, which are the state curriculum standards.  Beginning in grade 3 through high school graduation, students will be tested in the core subject areas of reading, writing,mathematics, science and social studies.

What is the purpose of STAAR and standardized testing? 

STAAR tests show whether a student has mastered specific knowledge of a core subject at a certain grade level.  Test results should provide parents assurance that their child is prepared to enter the next grade level within their school district or any Texas district.  Finally, the results provide educators and administrators with uniform information about where to focus resources - especially in the core subjects being taught.

Who takes STAAR EOC?  

 Students enrolled in an EOC course will take the STAAR EOC assessment at the conclusion of the course.  If a student enrolled in grade 8 or below is taking a course for which there is a STAAR EOC assessment, the student will take the applicable EOC assessment.  STAAR EOC is offered in the spring, summer and winter.  To meet state graduation requirements, students will retake STAAR EOC until a passing score is achieved.

When do we receive STAAR Results?

Confidential Student Reports (CSRs) are made available to parents following each test administration, usually near the end of the school year for spring assessments.   Parents will be notified when these results are available.

Results from June STAAR EOC will be shared with students the first week of school in August.  Results from December tests are usually available in late January. 

Parents and students can also access results for state assessments through the online Student Portal.  

Access to Student Portal

1. Click on Log In to Student Portal
   • If you know your student’s Unique Access Code, enter it, along with the student’s Date of Birth, then click GO.  To locate the unique access code look on the bottom of any Confidential Student Report (CSR) from a previous school year.  Keep this unique access code available and check the website for the latest test results as well as test results from previous school years.
   • If you do NOT know your student’s Access Code, click on the Lookup Access Code link.  Enter the Student’s First Name, PEIMS ID (either the Social Security Number or the State ID Number), and Date of Birth. Then click GO. The student’s Access Code will automatically populate. Click GO again.
2. Once you’ve successfully entered the Unique Access Code and Date of Birth, the student’s test history will be displayed on the screen. Click on any test name to view its details.
3. To obtain an electronic copy of theSTAAR Report Card, click the Download PDFs button in the upper-right corner.
4. Click on the test administration to view the STAAR Report Card.
5. The system will generate a PDF file suitable for download / printing.

What assessments are available for students receiving special services?

STAAR Alternate 2 assessments are available for  students with significant cognitive disabilities who meet the eligibility requirements.  For more information, refer to the special education assessments webpage.

What assessments are available for English language learners?

The online version of STAAR includes a range of linguistic supports available to eligible students.  STAAR is also available in Spanish in grades 3-5 (paper only).  

All students identified as Limited English Proficient will be assessed with the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS).  TELPAS includes reading, writing, speaking and listening components.
